The Language of Worlds Link-Up: September/October 2018

Image
Here's a quick shout out to Reformation Day since I was the person who forgot to schedule an article about the 500th anniversary about this historic day last year. Go ahead and read Anna's article again; that's all I can say. Today's article is another Language of Worlds Link-Up. I'm also going to stop linking all the TLoW I've done. You can find those in the Directory or under the labels section. The rules are below and I have another set of ten questions to answer about my two main characters: Karla and Jeff. According to the rules, I needed to link back to Liv K. Fisher and I have used the graphic above. September/October 1. What does your character fear the most? Karla probably fears failure the most since she is used to being very successful all the time. Jeff fears losing the people he loves since he does make sure that he is protecting his family. 2. How would they handle it if they were to face their fear? Knowing that this is ficti...

2018 Fall Book Reviews

Image
I have started reading a certain amount of chapters each day, and so I have been reading quite a lot. Today we have another pack of book reviews, and these are the last ones for the year since I have some really, really thick books coming ahead. Also, I have been reading a lot of books about becoming a politician since I am writing about being one for a Vocation Project, I'm doing for my English class. Books Read         The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White   The Summary   Thomas Edison: Inspiration and Hard Work by Janet and Geoff Benge   With only three months of formal education, Thomas Edison grew up to be one of the most successful inventors of all time. Applying scientific principles to practical use, he made scores of inventions and held over thirteen hundred patents, from improvements on the telegraph and phonograph to the development of the incandescent lamp and a whole...

The Language of Worlds Link-Up: July/August 2018

Today's article is another Language of Worlds Link-Up. You can check out the first one I participated in right here. The rules are below and I have another set of ten questions to answer about my two main characters: Karla and Jeff. According to the rules, I needed to link back to Liv K. Fisher and I have used the graphic above. July/August   1.Where does your character live, and how does that impact them?   Karla lived in Texas because she attends a college there. I'm still very much in the planning stage of this story, so I really haven't figured out why she wanted to attend college out of state. She moves back to Los Angeles which affects her relationship with her brother.   Jeff lives in Los Angeles and works at the police station there. I mean, he really could have been a detective anywhere, but I chose Los Angeles because I am familiar with most of the area and I am really comfortable with writing about city life.   2. If they could b...

Introductions to Lebanon + History of Lebanon

Image
We finally finished our series on Israel, so we are moving onto Lebanon. I am going to structure each country's study like I did for our study on Israel. I also updated the labels on the blog, so you will be able to find each country by the label. Lebanon is a neighboring country to the north of Israel. This country's flag has two red stripes signifying blood, one white stripe in the middle signifying peace, and a green cedar signifying immortality. The Old Testament occasionally mentions the "cedars of Lebanon." Modern-day Lebanon is also includes the cities of Phoenicia (Tyre, Sidon, etc.). I will lay down the basics like I did for the article on the Introductions to Israel : Capital: Beirut (on the small projection of land in the middle west of the country) Area: 4,036 square miles (almost half of size of Israel) Population: 6.007 million (2016) Location: North of Israel, south and west of Syria, and east of the Mediterranean Sea Language: Arabic Religi...

The Persian Empire ~ Part 1

Image
In the last history article, I wrote about the fall of Babylon. Today's article is the last history article of the year, and I will regretfully inform my readers that there will be a three-month break until I write Part 2 of the Persian Empire. Ironically, the geography article for this month is also the first part in a series (about Lebanon). Sorry, guys. I did not even plan to do this at all. Although we were talking about Daniel and Darius at the end of the last article, we first need to discuss Cyrus the Great to clear up a historical controversy. Cyrus the Great was the king of only Persia (modern day Iran) until he conquered the Medes and fused both kingdoms together. He also conquered all of the other surrounding kingdoms and added them to his alliance. He was also responsible for the attack against Babylon that is mentioned in the book of Daniel. But at the end of that chapter, a guy names Darius is mentioned, not Cyrus. Historians have had many interesting theo...
